Join Our Team: MFT Trainee Program

Why Train With Us?

At Hope Springs Collective, MFT Trainees are an integral part of our mission to provide accessible, compassionate care to the community. We are committed to helping you develop clinical confidence while making a meaningful impact.

What makes our site unique:

  • Faith-Informed, Trauma-Informed Care: Integration of Christian values with evidence-based practices such as EMDR, play therapy, and family systems approaches.
  • Rich Clinical Experience: See individual, child, teen, couple, and family clients in a private practice setting.
  • Supervision & Mentorship: Weekly one-on-one supervision by a licensed LMFT and EMDR Certified Consultant.
  • Ongoing Learning: Optional workshops, team meetings, and peer case consultations.
  • Collaborative Culture: You will be supported by a team of clinicians who value encouragement, growth, and shared learning.

Program Overview

  • Population Served: Children, teens, individuals, couples, and families (including underserved and faith-based clients)
  • Client Hours: Trainees typically see 7 to 10 clients per week
  • Supervision: Weekly individual supervision (1 hour/week)
  • Documentation: Clinical notes completed using Simple Practice (EHR system)
  • Start Dates: January (Winter Cohort) and June (Summer Cohort)
  • Location: Brea, CA — in-person services only

Trainee Qualifications & Expectations

We are looking for passionate, teachable graduate students who are:

  • Enrolled in a master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field
  • Interested in working with children, teens, and families
  • Able to commit to 10–12 hours per week, including supervision and documentation
  • Willing to integrate faith-informed perspectives when appropriate
  • Professional in demeanor and communication
  • Committed to learning and contributing to a supportive clinical team

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply if I haven’t started seeing clients yet?
Yes. Many trainees begin placement during their second practicum or once they have university approval to start seeing clients.

Is this a paid position?
No. This is an unpaid training position. However, the value of supervision, mentorship, and client experience is significant and fully aligned with university training requirements.

Do you accept trainees from all universities?
Yes. While we are affiliated with Hope International University, we welcome applicants from other programs with MFT or related clinical training tracks.

Will I get experience with documentation and treatment planning?
Yes. You’ll learn how to complete SOAP notes, treatment plans, and ethical documentation using our EHR system, Simple Practice.
